The basics

What Is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-backed therapy that helps your mind and body release the charge around painful memories, so they stop pulling you back into the past. You will not have to relive everything in detail, and we always move at your own pace.

What it helps with

What EMDR Therapy Helps With: Trauma, PTSD & Anxiety

  • Trauma and PTSD, both single events and the kind that builds up over time
  • Anxiety and overwhelm that will not settle
  • Painful patterns in relationships and dating
  • The weight of identity, belonging, and family history
  • Feeling stuck even when, on paper, things are fine

The experience

What EMDR Therapy Looks Like With Me

Our work is warm, collaborative, and paced so it feels safe. We begin by building steadiness and inner resources before any reprocessing, and your identity and culture stay in the room the whole way through. There is space for humor and relief alongside the harder moments.

Focused options

EMDR Intensives & Supplemental EMDR

EMDR does not have to be one hour a week, indefinitely. There are two focused ways to work together, depending on what you need.

EMDR intensives

Longer or condensed sessions that let us focus deeply on a specific memory or block, so you can move through it in weeks rather than months. A good fit when weekly sessions feel too slow, or you're working toward something time-sensitive.

Supplemental EMDR

Already have a primary therapist you trust? I can provide focused EMDR alongside your existing work, usually over 3 to 12 months, and coordinate with them so the two pieces fit together.

Questions

EMDR Therapy: Common Questions

What actually happens in an EMDR session?

After we build a foundation of safety, I guide you to briefly bring a difficult memory to mind while you follow a gentle back-and-forth motion, usually your eyes tracking my hand or a light. This helps your brain reprocess the memory so it loses its grip. You stay present and in control the whole time.

Will I have to relive my trauma?

No. EMDR does not ask you to retell every detail. You notice what comes up in short, manageable bursts, and we pause whenever you need to. The goal is relief, not being re-traumatized.

How many sessions will I need?

It varies. A focused issue can shift in a handful of sessions, while layered or complex trauma takes longer. An intensive can also condense the work. We will talk openly about what feels realistic for you.

Can EMDR work if I already have a therapist?

Yes. Many clients keep their primary therapist and see me for supplemental EMDR, often over 3 to 12 months. I am happy to coordinate care.

Does EMDR work over video?

Yes. EMDR adapts well to virtual sessions, and I see clients throughout New York online.

Do you take insurance?

I'm out-of-network, which keeps your care private and fully tailored to you. I provide superbills you can submit for possible reimbursement, and a sliding scale is available for financial hardship.
